Requirements to Apply

Do you meet one of the following criterias?

  • Service Members with over 20 years of service

  • Service Member 1 year out or less from separating from the military

  • Service Members are 2-years out or less of retiring

  • A Veteran (Currently NOT serving)

  • Spouse of an Active Duty Military member

  • Spouse of a Veteran

  • ACTIVE role as an ACT Now volunteer Team Member

  • Reservist

  • National Guard

Are you apart of the ACT Now Education Facebook group?

  • All qualified personnel WILL need a Facebook account to become a member of our ACT Now Facebook Group to gain access to Coursera.

IF YOU HAVE VERIFIED THE INFORMATION ABOVE IS TRUE FOLLOW THESE STEPS FOR SUCCESS

NOTE: Each application is separate. You MUST apply to each in order to obtain access. I.e. just because you apply to Coursera does NOT mean you automatically applied to Splunk. If you want to apply to both then you need to apply on their respective applications.

STEP 1

You MUST attend an orientation to receive the code to register successfully. Orientations are held every Saturday at 1:00 PM EST and run to 3:00 PM EST.

STOP AND READ ME: The email you register with for Orientation with is the same email you apply to programs with. Orientation is tracked via the survey provided ONLY during the Orientation. Be sure to submit the code provided in the survey, else you will need to attend another Orientation. Your application will NOT move forward.

STEP 2

If you have not done so already, navigate to the Military Community Resources ACT Now Facebook group or click the "Click to Join" Button above.

  • Request to join the group

  • Answer the Group Questions (We will NOT approve your membership request, unless ALL 3 questions are answered in FULL)

  • IF YOU ARE ALREADY IN THE FB GROUP, CONTINUE TO STEP 3

STEP 3

  • Make the following individual group post. NOT in the comment sections of posts

  • Each post to the group must be approved.

  • We do this so your information is not shared with the group.

  • Once completed, we will create your account, and the post will be deleted.

To complete this step successfully, enter the following information:

  • Provide a valid email address in the post. Failure to do so WILL result in a rejection of your request.

  • Email address

  • "I promise to start a course today. I'm here to learn with #Coursera #ACTNowEducation."

STEP 4

  • Complete the Coursera Account Application. You WILL receive an email with NOT READY state if the email used to apply is different that the email you attended registration with. So ensure you utilize the same email, or there will be a delay in your applications approval.

  • To receive a free Coursera account, you MUST be a member of our Military Community Resources ACT

    Now Facebook group.

  • ONLY submit your application if you have requested to "join" or are a "current" group member.

  • Ensure that you have submitted the survey during Orientation mentioned in step one. Else you WILL receive an email with NOT READY state.

  • Please allow up to two weeks to have your application reviewed, emails will not be reviewed if a minimum of one week has not passed.

FAQ

I completed my application, but received a NOT READY state email?

See STEP 1 "STOP AND READ ME" as this is the cause 90% of the time. If you dropped Orientation early, attend the Orientation via mobile device and did not see it posted in the chat, or missed it due to not paying attention, then the only solution is to attend another Orientation. Come focused!

It's been a couple of days and where's my Coursera account?

See Step 4 - bullet #5: Please allow up to two weeks to have your application reviewed, emails will not be reviewed if a minimum of one week has not passed.

It's been almost 2 weeks and I haven't received anything about my Coursera account?

If it's been 2 weeks, perform the following actions:

  1. Check your spam/junk folder. Sometimes you may have just missed the email because it was there.

  1. Ensure your mailbox was full, this leads to you not being able to receive emails.

  1. Check your LinkedIn or Facebook messages to see if Tyrone has not already messaged you with regards to additional information or missing items.

  2. Make sure you completed all the steps in full, primarily insuring you submitted the survey with the code during the Orientation you attended and the email you used was the same email you applied with. If the email was different from the email with the application, then it would only reflect attendance of an Orientation for that email.

  3. If all of the above have been done, then create a professional Facebook Post on the ACT Now Education page requesting an update and Tag Tyrone. Emailing will only cause a greater a delay. What does a professional update request look like in a Facebook post:

    "Hi, just requesting a status update on my application. I have verified that nothing landed in spam or junk. It's been approximately X number of days. Please let me know if I'm missing anything @Tyrone Hewitt"

Unprofessional update request [THAT WILL BE IGNORED]:
"What's the status of my application? It's been 2 weeks and I haven't heard anything! What's taking so long?!"

Remember we are a group of professionals working to better ourselves and operate with mutual respect. At ACT Now Education, we do not work for you but with you. We are a small group of volunteers focused on ensuring you can be successful. We all put in countless hours, so patience is a virtue. We make mistakes and sometimes people fall through the cracks but we will ensure to get you squared away. We want to see your success just as much as you do!

I tried using the code on Coursera but it's not working?

Yes, you are correct that the code is not working because the code is ONLY meant for the survey provided during the Orientation to track attendance. It's not used anywhere else i.e. like Coursera for example.
